where the hell have i been?

August 19th, 2007 by toomuchofnothing

i’ve been busy, that’s where (busy is a street near my office, FYI).

seriously, i’ve been promising myself that i’d update this blog more often, now that i have my macbook (sorry, couldn’t resist mentioning it; thanks, shi and tina!). still, work and stuff got in the way, so i never got around to it till now.

i promise to update more often now. hopefully, what i write will actually be more interesting. or not. i’ve got a list of topics to write about, including design, culture and other stuff. see, i’m no longer low-brow!

oh, i still am? screw you, then. hehe.

i don’t want to play favorites, so i’ll just say that you were shaping up to be one bad-ass cat.

you were so cute, though, all white and clean-looking. you acted the most mature, just like maggie.

whatever happened, i hope you’re at peace now.

miko and i will look after nari and chili.

bye, big boy. one last big kiss and hug from me, although i know you found that irritating.

Mamatay ka na!

April 2nd, 2007 by toomuchofnothing

wherever you are, i hope you get your karma soon. and i super hope that your karma is me. you had better pray that you don’t get caught, though, because papahirapan muna kita.

i hope you’re enjoying your stolen cellphone, you SOB. sana masira agad yan, at sana mamatay ka at ang buong pamilya mo.

whoever you are… putang ina mo! magnanakaw! sana lang talaga mahuli ka. i will look forward to meeting you.

*for everyone who knows miko, please be advised that her phone was stolen early saturday morning. that number no longer works.

apple is the man

March 9th, 2007 by toomuchofnothing

it’s strange.

ever since before, apple’s been considered as the outsider, the cool (not mainstream, ha) choice, the rebel. apple’s always been the brand for people who want to be different.

but how about now?

the ipod is almost literally everywhere. as in. walk around the mall or Makati’s CBD after work, and i guarantee you’ll see at least five people with ipods.

not that i’m saying there’s anything wrong with apple or the ipod, ha. on the contrary, i think both are great. i want (trying to buy, actually) a 2ghz macbook core 2 duo. i just think that it’s so ironic that apple has now become the establishment that it once fought against.

i know, i know. marketing and all that.

cool, huh? fine, maybe not. still, i want that macbook, damnit! hehe.

i did it!

January 23rd, 2007 by toomuchofnothing

i got my papers today. no, not my long-delayed pedigree.

i got promoted! i’m now a Senior Copy Editor! hehe.

Objects of desire

December 22nd, 2006 by toomuchofnothing

so. it’s that time of the year again, and as usual i feel sorely tempted to spend my hard-earned cash on things that i really don’t need (is it the season, or does the marketing really get better?).

so, i got to thinking about your possessions, and what they say about you.

there are some things i need, and some that i want. and some that i would buy only if i was, like, really loaded. here’s a few (in no particular order):

1. the nokia n73 music edition. the only black out-of-the-box n73. it’s just simply gorgeous, and that large screen is great for watching your collection of phone scandals on.

2. the ferrari f430 spyder. how the hell did they design it to look like it was moving even when standing still? i swear, this is so hot.

3. driving shoes from jp tods. classic. perfect. if they didn’t invent them, they damn well should have.

4. apple’s macbook in black. it’s strange how apple made white the new black, then released black models which quickly became the new white. hehe.

5. gucci’s GG-fabric messenger bag with adjustable shoulder strap, zip-top closure, front flap pocket, and front zip pocket. in beige, no less.

6. favorito loafers from ferragamo. i know, a little pimp-y. gorgeous all the same. in madera, if you care.

7. patek philippe’s 5712/1A nautilus watch. shit, do i have to say why? just look at the thing. wow.

8. alec jeans from paper denim and cloth. relaxed boot cut, just perfect for my frame.

9. all (well, almost) the available colors of lacoste’s short sleeve fitted pique polo. they’ve been around for a long while, and for good reason.

10. ray-ban aviators. in gold, with pink lenses. yes, more pimp stuff.

well, i’ve stopped drooling, so i’ll end this here. think about it: what would you kill to have?

i think i’m turning chinese

October 27th, 2006 by toomuchofnothing

well, not really.

but anyway, i got back a few days ago from hong kong (emsy and louiegirl, hi!) and, wow, i love it. my second trip there, actually.

i mean, what’s not to love? electronics that are tax-exempt, even if you’re a local. fashionistas everywhere (short skirts+boots+nice top= happy volts). excellent food. wonderful shopping at the ladies’ market. oh, the list goes on and on…

i love the energy of that city. it’s incredible the way people charge up and down the escalator (stay on the right side if you aren’t moving). they really do give the impression of going places.

unfortunately, my schedule only allowed me to go out at night, but i still had an eyeful-and-a-half. i just regret that i didn’t really get to go around the malls (yes, i’m a super mallrat). i also didn’t find any petshops (just pet accessory places). i’m sure there are some, and i was hoping to find some exotic animals. no, nothing endangered, and i wasn’t planning on buying anything. i just wanted to see.

i got myself an early christmas present. a black ds lite. hehe. trips on the bf shuttle will never be tedious again!

i wonder if i could work there. well, i still think i’d prefer singapore, since there’s less requirement for speaking chinese (all i can do is swear and tell someone that i want to eat them, which is pretty much the same thing). still, i wanna go back. preferably with a suitcase full of cash and all the time i need to spend it.

whatever. anyway, someone get me a job there! or singapore! hehe.

man for hire

October 6th, 2006 by toomuchofnothing

shit, it’s been a while since i last updated. i haven’t forgotten about my blog, i just kept on putting off making a new post. i’ve been busy with work, summaries, writing my book, and moderating duties… i bumped into Dar earlier this evening (a friend and former officemate), and he reminded me of my laziness. hehe.

anyway, this goes out to all the corporate slaves out there.

i am a mercenary. i will do a lot of things for money. not like a hooker though, although there isn’t anything wrong with that. being a hooker, i mean.

it’s just that i’m past the point of do-what-you-love-and-the-money-will-come. let’s face it, only a rare few can actually boast of doing what they love for money. maybe some hookers, for all i know.

it’s not like i hate what i do now. sometimes, i actually enjoy it. it’s just that i don’t love it, and i still don’t mind doing it 5 days a week. one saturday afternoon alone at the office, i came to the realization that i really don’t care as long as i get paid.

not that i’m getting millions a month, ha.

of course i’d like to earn more. in fact, if i got a great offer, i would really have to think long and hard about it. i mean, i have my goals, and i want to really make something of myself. if for no other reason, than to erase my internal stigma of having squandered so much of my time on frivolous things.

hey, i’m not that shallow. at the time, i really thought they were worth doing. hay, hindsight is so clear that it hurts.

want a bald, pushing-30, semi-angsty and rather bitchy editor/writer who refuses to have lunch during the work week on your payroll? make me an offer.

extra service not included, but pwedeng pag-usapan. hehe.

on loss

June 23rd, 2006 by toomuchofnothing

i love having friends. i really do. but, well, the world doesn’t revolve around me, and things happen. i just hate when they do, though. now, i love new things, but i like to keep the old ones (at least, the good ones) around. still, like i said, things happen.

one of the things i really hate is how friendship can change. i’ve got some really good friends who i don’t stay in touch with so much (mostly due to geographic location). i’ve got friends who, for some reason, ended up showing me how little my frienship meant to them. i’ve got friends who (and i still don’t know the reason), ended up dropping me like a hot potato.

now, i’m no angel. i’ve done a few things in the past to some good friends that altered the friendship to such an extent that we really aren’t close anymore (and if you’re reading this, dude, i’m still sorry i did it).

still, there’s the bright side. i’ve still got some good friends out there, to whom my frienship still means something. i’ve got some great friends in a land far, far away (thanks for the great pasalubong, you two!) who are still great friends. i’ve got a great friend who isn’t all that far away (and since she still works for the same company, i can email her at will without worrying about getting caught by the in-house IT department). i’ve got one hell of a barkada (what’s left of it, that is), who i’m sure feel the same way about me. at least, i hope so…

i guess this is all part and parcel of life. still, this sucks. big time.

basta, to all my real friends: thanks so very much. i wouldn’t be me without you, and i wouldn’t even want to try.

i love you guys (and girls).

places to see in manila 2

April 21st, 2006 by toomuchofnothing
the greenhills shopping center is located in san juan.
yeah, i know you know that.
it has the following malls: shoppesville, v mall (formerly known as virra mall), theater mall, theater mall extension (ok, so i don’t know its name) and this small place that used to be a parking lot (it’s actually still a parking lot, on the upper floors). there’s also a food place connected to a really small mini-mall, connected to the cellphone area.
fine, so i’m bad with names.
greenhills is known for one thing: shopping!
you can get pretty good deals on imitation stuff like clothes, bags and shoes. it has a good selection of pirated vcds, dvds and games.
a wide selection of electronics is also available here. these encompass computers and parts, gaming consoles, and sundry other electronic goods and accessories.
don’t forget the cellphones! there are millions (well, close to a hundred) shops here that sell cellphones, usually at a good price. unless you look like a tourist, in which case they jack the price up by at least 50 percent. you can trade in, sell, and buy phones, and have your phone fixed and applications installed.
because of the increasing popularity of apple’s ipod, some enterprising stalls now offer to fill your unit up with songs. yeah, ipod feeding without the hassle of downloading! galing talaga ng pinoy, woohoo!
there are also many good places to eat here. most notable are le ching and its sequel, le ching 2, and a korean place in the foodcourt (well, it isn’t really a foodcourt. or maybe it is). there are also a wide selection of fastfood, including mcdonalds, jollibee, kfc, shakeys and yoshinoya.
done shopping? your feet hurt? then go have coffee. there are 2 starbucks, a figaro and a coffee bean all within striking distance. you can also watch a movie (there are 4 theaters, i believe).
although it has currently been undergoing a facelift (they’re trying to improve the image of greenhills; i hope they don’t mess with its unique charm), this is definitely a must-see in manila.
